Dental surgery is the surgery of jaw bones and teeth. Therefore, it covers quite a number of dental procedures or medical procedures that involve artificial modification of dentition. It includes the following procedures below.
Dental Surgery Procedures
1. Wisdom tooth extraction
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to take out one or more wisdom teeth. These are the four permanent adult teeth.
If a wisdom tooth, also known as a third molar, doesn’t have room to grow, it can become impacted. If an impacted wisdom tooth causes pain, infection or other dental problems, you’ll likely need to have a dentist or an oral surgeon remove it. Some dentists and oral surgeons recommend removing your wisdom teeth, even if they aren’t causing problems. That’s because these teeth can lead to problems later in life.
2. Apicectomy
An apicectomy is the removal of the tip of the root of the tooth, known as the apex. This minor surgical operation is performed if infection or cysts continue to be a problem after root canal treatment or if your dentist is unable to seal the root tip with a normal root filling.
3 – Flap Surgery-Flap surgery is sometimes performed to remove tartar deposits in deep pockets or to reduce the periodontal pocket and make it easier for you or your dental professional to keep the area clean. This common surgery involves lifting back the gums and removing the tartar.
4 – All types of fractures-It includes both maxillary and mandibular fracture. Mandibular fractures are more common as compared to maxillary fractures. Mandibular fractures can be treated by using titanium plates and screws. Inter maxillary fixation is a procedure of maxillary fracture.
5 – Oral Tumours / Jaw Tumours and Cysts- Dental Surgery include the diagnosis and treatment of full spectrum of Cyst and tumours in the oral cavity which includes benign as well as malignant tumours.
